pink snow – the beautiful evil

I normally don’t post topics that have to do with life outside of the Spike Likes creative den, but today’s petal snow inspired me to mention how unbelievably pretty it can be in Virginia / DC – but it comes with a hefty (booger) price.

Beautiful evil.

Hopefully I won’t offend the natives, people who love, live and breathe easily in this area. Truly, it can be so startlingly lovely here.  I’ve never seen so many blooming trees and not in the UK sense of bloomin’ or blasted, but flowering.  Landscape artists and residents have done such thoughtful and amazing work – trees with flowers in shades of pink, white, purple line the streets.  I’m guessing they are a combination of cherry trees, dogwood, Bradford pear and magnolia.

The beautiful evil is just my funny way of putting it, describing the over abundance of pollen and mysterious green particles in the air that causes allergies. I’ve never seen green dust on cars before.
Ash from fires in San Diego, yes, but not green sooty stuff that blankets everything like the Wizard of Oz poppy scene.

This week the weather has shifted dramatically (again) – lots of wind and rain caused the trees to shake and let loose a flurry of pastel petals.  My son looked out the window this morning and asked, “Mommy, is it snowing?”
